Six obstacles keepingHaiti in the dark.
National and international experts agree on a handful of obstacles behind Haiti's underdevelopment.
- 01
Bad governance
One of the roots of the corruption eating away at every part of the public administration. It comes with incompetence, a lack of patriotism, a lack of transparency, and shutting key actors out of the big decisions facing the nation.
- 02
Foreign interference
Since the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Haiti has been losing its sovereignty. A line of corrupt, incompetent and stateless leaders has bowed to foreign powers at the expense of national interests. Haitian diplomacy is on a stretcher.
- 03
Corruption
The dismantling of public institutions, administrative waste, embezzlement of public funds and property, mismanagement, theft, tax fraud and evasion: all acts of corruption that hold back the country's development.
- 04
Injustice and insecurity
Justice for sale; trafficking in weapons, organs and cocaine; armed gangs multiplying; exploitation of women, children and vulnerable people. An ineffective National Police and no strong, professional, patriotic defense force.
- 05
Political instability
Violent protests, coups and power grabs, elected officials who ignore democratic deadlines, broken political promises, and no free, honest, transparent and democratic elections.
- 06
Natural disasters
Earthquakes, cyclones, storms and hurricanes. Beyond the lives they take, the economic losses reach millions of dollars every year.
03Vision
17 sectorsto rebuild the country.
To overcome these obstacles, FLAD has a vision across more than fifteen sectors.
